Keep in mind that the size of your land can dictate how large of a foot print your home can be. Also, larger homes tend to be less expensive to build if they are a 2 story vs a 1 story.
How "open" or "compartmentalized" would you like your floor plan? An open floor plan has less rooms and less walls, and a floor plan with more rooms is typically not considered "open".
